It’s not often we have the chance to sit at the feet of a teacher like Matsunori, and even less often to share a moment of creativity and connection before he returns to the silence of his homeland. On December 1st, we’ll gather to bid him farewell in a way that feels fitting: through poetry, reflection, and quiet celebration.
Note: This was sent out in our newsletter and Sensei Matsunori asked me to share it publicly for those seekers interested in attending:
The Event
- Date: December 1, 2024
- Time: 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM
- Location: Drunken Fish – Westport Plaza, 639 W Port Plaza Dr, St. Louis, MO 63146
Join us for an evening of open shared stories, and whispered truths. Matsunori will share one final reflection before his return to Japan—something he’s never done in public before. He’s asked me not to share the nature of his message, but knowing him, it will be equal parts cryptic and profound.
As we approach midnight, Matsunori will deliver what he calls “The Gathering of Shadows.” He has refused to let me hear it in advance. All I know is that he mentioned a single phrase: “We do not choose the dark; it chooses us.”
